Comprehensively developed by Komatsu, the HM400-3 dump truck utilizes a fuel efficient SAA6D140E-6 engine which operates in accordance with EPA Tier 4 and EU Stage 3B emission standards. It features a Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter (KDPF) to isolate up to 90% of particles from the engine system.The Komatsu Variable Geometry Turbocharger (KVGT) allow for adequate air flow through a hydraulic actuator.

The truck is constructed with a large LCD color monitor panel with 7" high resolution screen. This panel display fuel consumption reading in order to give operators "Eco-Guidance" for fuel efficient operation. Its frame is designed to handle payloads as large as 40 tons (44.1 short tons). The cab is also designed for ergonomic use and wider visual scope.
