GWEs SUPERFLOT?-AIR can either be used for pre-treatment of the wastewater or for sludge separation after aerobic treatment. Furthermore the SUPERFLOT?-AIR can be used as a tertiary treatment for final effluent polishing.

The SUPERFLOT?-AIR separates solids from its influent by means of flotation, also referred to as Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF). Solids are forced to float by injecting fine air bubbles attaching to these solids. The fine air bubbles are created by recycling clean effluent, in which air is dissolved under pressure. After injection, into the lower part of the flotation tank, the pressure release results in formation of fine air bubbles.

Consequently a floating layer of solids is formed on the surface of the SUPERFLOT?-AIR which can be easily removed. In order to remove any settled sediment from the flotation unit, the system can be equipped by means of a bottom auger for automated sludge removal.

Using the SUPERFLOT?-AIR for solids separation following an aerobic system allows for operation at elevated aerobic biomass concentration, thus reducing the space requirement of the aerobic system. Furthermore a flotation unit still achieves high separation efficiencies despite of the presence of filamentous sludge (bulking sludge).
