Single-stage ejector

These steam jet vacuum pumps and steam jet compressors are the most commonly used types of jet pumps. They use water steam (superheated or saturated) as their driving medium.

The driving steam passes to the driving nozzle which has a Laval-shaped contour to create supersonic speed. It does this by changing the steam pressure to kinetic energy and the relevant low pressure at the outlet. Any type of gas or vapor is held back at this part of the pump. It is combined intensively with the driving medium and then increased speed is imparted to it in the mixing nozzle. The speed of the mixed flow is primarily decreased using a shockwave. It is further reduced to the necessary counterpressure in the outlet cone after the throat of the mixing nozzle. The kinetic energy is then converted back to pressure energy.
