EMI-5s functions as a gateway Modbus/Profibus device. This unit can be connected using a fieldbus board to the measure instruments. The connection of the EMI-5s to these devices is made using a serial line that complies with EIA RS-232 or EIA RS-485 standard.

The Profibus connection is enabled through the basic Profibus cable. This interface utilizes the DP-VO slave in the Profibus DP network. The operator can connect up to 126 device on the same bus in the network.

Profibus controller automates the interchange of data between peripheral modules and the master module in the Profibus-DP network. It can also show the data exchange memory of the DP devices in the memory of the master.
