FFC connectors are available as 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm and 1 mm pitches. They feature an FFC side entry, flip lock and bottom contact. There are FFC side entry, side lock and top and bottom contact versions. They are available as surface mounted, with side entry and top entry, with top contact (side entry only) and bottom contact, with ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) and in slide and flip lock actuator styles.

FFC connectors as compared with traditional 'two piece' male and female IDC and discrete wire cable to board systems provide numerous advantages. These include a low height profile, light weight, smaller PCB package size, and a one piece nature which results in fewer assembly actions and low costs. They are also more advantageous in applications including moving parts as the flexibility of FFC outweighs the discrete cable /IDC, such as photocopiers and scanners.
