The UPV-3 and UPV-5 contains an oil based dielectric fluid that lets a tiny spark gap as it makes for easier machining of insufficient slot widths and smaller corner radii. Their oil dielectric system is for the purpose of machining of carbides and other various materials that are beneficial in the making of tooling for stamping, fining the blanking and forming of powdered metal.

These machines are built with Makino's SPG II circuit that gives development in the effectiveness of machining.

Both machines are suited with PICO accuracy wire guides.

The UPV-3 has XY-axis travels of 14.56"x10.63" (370 x 270 mm), while the UPV-5 provides XY-axis travels of 21.65"x14.56" (550 x 370 mm).
