Parr’s Apparatus for Vapor Pressure Determination is a common leak test for Parr pressure vessels. The test involves filling a vessel with nitrogen at 300 K to 50 bar. The filled vessel will then be heated to a temperature of 600 K. Doubling the absolute temperature should result in a doubling of the pressure to 100 bar.

The design employs a custom dual vessel system for the accurate determination of the material’s saturation pressure. All associated head fittings, valves and plumbing, as well as the pressure transducers, are housed in a heated, temperature controlled, aluminum block. This is done to reduce temperature gradients and to ensure that the average system temperature closely matches the temperature of the vessels. The exposed valves and fittings are covered by an aluminum plate during normal operation of the system.
