In Centralized RAN (C-RAN) architectures, low latency baseband radio CPRI transport between the centralized baseband units and the remote radio units is essential for the precise coordination of the remote radios for optimal spectral utilization. This radio baseband network is referred to as fronthaul. Its function is to enable the baseband units to seamlessly connect to the remote radio units without impacting radio performance and features.
As part of the Ericsson Fronthaul 6000 solution, the Ericsson PAU 6000 provides managed linear and protected ring DWDM networking of baseband radio transmission over a distance of up to 15 km. Its low-latency and high capacity networking of up to 48 managed optical channels enables the centralization of Macro cells for C-RAN architectures. Along with the Ericsson Radio System R503 Baseband CPRI multiplexer, it provides further CPRI transport efficiency for C-RAN fronthaul transport of up to 192 remote radios. The PAU 6000 follows the same best practices of outdoor and indoor operation as the RBS 6000 product line.
