In recent years, the number of electronic consumers supplied with direct current, has geatly increased. As a result of the retification of alernating-current voltages with subsequent smoothing, the supply grids are considerably loades with harmonic oscillation.

The power supply companies are attempting to reduce harmonic oscillations in their supply grids.
