CSS 2 for monitoring of the cleanliness of the PE insulation during the production of XLPE insulated high and extra-high voltage cables


The cleanliness of the insulation material is a primary quality charcteristic at the production of high-voltage cables.

SIKORA offers an intelligent solution to detect contamination in the PE-insulation.

With the unique CSS 2 camera system, the entire XLPE-material is examined online for purity in the flow channel directly before the crosshead.

Improvement of the process

After a controlled bleed-off of the extruder prior to the production the CSS 2 reliably shows when the operator can start the line. Due to its online inspection for cleanliness during the production the CSS 2 informs early about contamination and detects combustion particles such as ambers and scorches in the PE melt. The CSS 2 guarantees a quality control for a perfect timing for the start and stop of the production.

A quantitative and graphical display of the faults guarantees a cleanliness concept for highest quality and long operation time of the cable.
