The BLMUC linear motor from Aerotech is a highly compact U channel motor sized only 52 mm x 20.8 mm in cross sectional dimension, designed to give high force in a very compact package. The BLMUC is ideally good for applications of small load and confined space constraints such as a pick head on a pick and place machine, and high acceleration, low mass handling machines. The motor, consisting of non contact forcer assembly with Hall effect devices, U channel magnet track and thermal sensor, has a design that removes windup, backlash, wear and maintenance issues associated with belts, ball screws, rack and pinions. The forcer assembly is a small reinforced epoxy structure while the iron free design removes eddy current and clogging losses that would otherwise add to the heat and put an obstacle to the speed. To produce maximum RMS force, air cooling is a must and hence these linear motors are suited for any motors that demand high levels of positioning resolution and precision.
