The AutoPED is a vehicle mounted receiver designed to provide communications to the underground fleet. The AutoPED comprises a receiver/display unit and an external antenna unit. The Display unit allows the operator to easily read the PED messages while the external antenna unit ensures communications are maintained.

AutoPED receivers can be mounted on production, transport and maintenance vehicles. The AutoPED is powered via the vehicle battery (8 to 30 volt DC), so when the vehicle is shut off, the unit automatically switches off after two hours to prevent drainage. The AutoPED has been used as a fixed station receiver in workshops, refuge bays, etc. and is also being used as a Section Alarm in some coal mines.
