The timing belt drive represents the most modern and
efficient power transmission system and is replacing,
in some applications, traditional roller chain and gear drivers.
Technical evolution in power transmission design has
required drives that can transmit increasingly higher
power to weight ratio. This brings about high dynamic stress
conditions which are the major cause of belt failures such
as tooth jumping, tooth shear and noise.
