In quantities relative to the individual metering rates of each section, progressive distributors are utilized to distribute the lubricant they receive during the contact time to the lubrication points, one after another.

Only one lubrication point can be supplied by each feeder outlet with lubricant. Several outlet ports can be combined into one, in the event that the demand for lubrication is high at one lubrication point.

It is possible to monitor the operation of a feeder due to the way it works. This is achieved by way of a piston stroke indicator (visual) or a piston detector (electronic or electrical).

In the fields of mechanical and systems engineering plus on-road and off-road sectors, progressive systems and progressive feeders are mainly used for total loss grease lubrication, as well as in circulating oil lubrication systems.
