Stationary beveling machine

For the first time, sensor supported systems can be provided with the igm ibs plasma cutting machine which are optimized for all mechanical and control requirements for chamfering flat sheet metal.

This special characteristic was made possible by the development of a parallelogram-like cutting head on which the cutting torches, movable in two axes, are mounted. This unit is fitted onto a stable gantry, which is movable in a longitudinal direction and has in addition a cross slide and a vertical slide to accept the parallelogram.

The special design of the cutting head allows chamfering of flat sheet metal with any and also alterable, chamfer angles on straight or curved cuts. The design has two axes which are independent of one another and fully integrated into the system controls: a torch tilting axis and a rotating cutting head axis. By this means, whilst horizontal movement is made only from the linear axis, any cutting angle required for every direction of cut can be set via the parallelogram.

Precise chamfering of sheet metal edges is an important prerequisite for subsequent automatic welding of highly-stressed work pieces and can therefore not be achieved with plasma cutting systems without continual sensor guidance. this is because inaccuracies occur caused by uneven sheet metal, wear of the supporting grid on the cutting table and distortion of the sheet metal during cutting.
