Optical encoder interface card

HEIDENHAIN are linear, rotary and angle encoders which usually produce sinusoidal scanning signals with approximately 11 µAPP (current signals) or approx. 1 VPP (voltage signals) levels. The scanning signals are at first interpolated by the subsequent electronics, before converting them into square-wave pulses (digitizing).

The encoders are based on the principle of photoelectrically scanning very ?ne gratings. The circuity for interpolation and digitizing could be integrated in the NC control, such as a HEIDENHAIN TNC, or in the numerical display, such as a ND or POSITIP from HEIDENHAIN. The circuitry can also be availed as a separate unit: IDP 18x (for voltage signals A, B and R) or IDP 101 (for current signals I1, I2 and I0).

As output signals, the IDP gives two square-wave pulse trains (Ua1 and Ua2) and a reference pulse Ua0. All of the four signal edges of Ua1 and Ua2 can function as a counting pulse in one signal period.
