The UF membranes are available in two versions: flat sheets, for use in specific processes and heavy wastewater applications, and hollow fibers, for use in water treatment applications. The standard hollow fibers are offered as single capillary fibers (singlebore), with 0.8 mm or smaller diameter capillaries, but can also vary in size up to 3.0 mm when intended for use with feed water that contains a higher amount of suspended solids. The diameter offers combination of high packing density, easy back-wash-ability, low fouling tendency, low operating costs, high permeability with good resistance to mechanical stress, offering optimal performance and increased durability. Regardless of the issue involving compromised membrane integrity, due to broken fibers, as singlebore fibers are rather fragile when exposed to repeated backwashing, these models are still widely used in all water treatment applications.
